How UV Light Works

There are many spectrums to "light".....these include infrared, radio, x-rays, gamma, and ultra-violet rays. Germicidal UV is the narrow wavelength of 254nm used to inactivate airborne pathogens. This specific UV wavelength has been recognized since the early 1930's as an effective germ Light specand virus killer. Micro organisms that travel through your indoor air can get trapped in the moist environment of your air conditioning system.

Bacteria can then breed and spread throughout the system and your home. The Blue Tube Fresh-Aire UV Light System attacks and sterilizes these bacteria in your air conditioning system, where they live and breed.

The Blue Tube purifies the air that moves through your home, improving the quality of your indoor living space. Germicidal ultraviolet light produced by the Blue Tube Fresh-Aire UV light system penetrates the cellular walls of micro-organisms present in your air conditioning system, causing cellular damage and either killing the cells or preventing them from reproducing.

In addition to the undisputed effectiveness of UV light sterilization with regard to your health, field and laboratory tests highlight its ability to clean indoor cooling coils that have been caked with mold and mildew. While you're probably familiar with the tedious task of changing air conditioning filters, they do little to prevent build up on the cooling coil.

I have some personal experience with Blue-Tube UV lights to share that I think will be helpful as you make your decision to add the benefits of UV to your home.

In the past five years, I have had severe bronchial issues four out of the five years, and two of those ended in a full blown pneumonia of my left lung.  These bouts have all been nearly identical.  They start to manifest in mid summer, when the temps are in the 90’s and humidity is at it’s summer peak. 

Well, last year I said “enough”.  I decided that before the conditions became favorable, I would take some measures to try and protect myself.  I started by placing a Blue-Tube UV light above the A-Coil in my air handling unit.  I also replaced the filter system for my furnace as well.  I was stunned at how easy the Blue-Tube UV light was to install.  It honestly took me longer to round up the tools needed to complete the project than it did to actually do the installation.  And, I am happy to report that since the installation of my UV light, I have not had a reoccurrence of my upper respiratory issues.

I can actually describe the installation in one simple paragraph (but follow the directions that come with the light).  First I cut the power to my system.  I removed the access panel of my air handler and located the 24 volt transformer.  Next I wired the two power wires from the Blue-Tube power pack to the 24 Volt transformer.   I decided on the best location for the light and drilled a 7/8” hole into the case of my evaporator coil.  I then inserted the light into the hole, until the magnet set the lamp into place.  Next, I attached the Blue-Tube power pack to the side of my air handler, placed the door back on and turned the power back on to the system……TaDa!  That was it.  Actually, there was one more little step.  I drilled a small hole into the front of my coil and inserted the indicator lens.  Ok, that was all there was to it.  Maybe 30 minutes at most.

As you decide on which Blue-Tube Germicidal Light is best for you, here are a few things to consider.  Blue-Tube UV lamps come in either 1 year or 2 year MaxLife  bulbs, so you first need to decide between the length of time between bulb changes.  Next, you have the choice of 24 Volt or 120 Volt power.  In order to use the 24 volt light, you need to be comfortable finding and accessing the 24 volt transformer of your furnace or air handler.  But don’t let that task detour you.  You always have to option of choosing the 120 volt light that only requires that your wire to or attach a standard household plug and utilize your homes standard wiring for power.  And finally, if you also have an odor issue in your home, be it from pets, cooking or other odors, you can also choose a Blue-Tube UV light that with “OST” odor sanitizing technology.

So, the choices are simple:
1 Year or 2 Year Light?
24 Volt or 120 Volt?
Standard or Odor Sanitizing?
Also, the warranties for the 24 volt power packs are 5 years, while the warranty on the 120 volt power pack is 10 years
